Now, you may have noticed this yourself at some point, but likely have been quickly corrected in your ridiculous philosophical diversion. Perhaps this diversion was facilitated by a TV - it normally is. This post absolutely in no way wants to tell you how to live your life, well, not really. That proves to be a little bit of a paradox really, but I am sure you will make sense of it. Take what you need, leave what you don't...
The problems:
- Restriction - You are stopped from doing something you want to do by some factor or position you find yourself in your life. This of course is the root of all things that causes loss of freedom and let's face it, who doesn't want freedom?
- Confusion - An inability to understand or comprehend the factors in your life causing such restriction, and therefore outside of luck an inability to form a logical plan to lose it.
- Misguidance and Misconception - An inability to know the truthfulness of ideas caused by a lack of perception. The formulation of faulty plans by faulty or incomplete logic and information, causing confusion, erratic results, and often resulting in excess restriction.
- Competition - Many, if not nearly all, of those in life are involved in a hierarchical system (try to find something which isn't hierarchical and you will get a golden star.) The best way to improve your game in the hierarchical system, whether conscious of it or not, is to restrict, confuse and misguide your competitors. Remember that sometimes working together is simply done on a competition basis. This is still hierarchy, just several people become one unit in that hierarchy, sometimes quite a readily expendable one. Often these groups are still hierarchies on their own.
- Conscious Competition - I assure you that those at the top of the hierarchical system, are there because they consciously understand the above. It keeps them in their position. These people are very good at the hierarchical game. They free themselves from the above restrictions as much as they can whilst imposing them on those underneath them. Sabotage and manipulation. Not only are these people good at this, they have the advantage of being born into the top of the system. Over generations the game has almost been rigged by those at the top. This rigging only works most effectively on those who can not see it, and certainly doesn't apply to those outside the hierarchical game.
- False needs - Generalising your aims in life is a tricky business. It has to be specific enough to please you, and general enough to be able to be accomplished. If many people are scrambling, it only makes sense to know what will work suitably, this requires some pragmatism. Most people are scrambling for the wrong things, believing that they need specific this or specific that anyway, because they have no clear defined idea of who they are and what they want.
I believe that there are two types of people:
- Aware people: These people analyse their life and what they see, logically, and have come to a simple and powerful understanding of the forces driving over humans efforts and their own. They see that the world works much in the same way as a game. They are completely honest with themselves at all times. They know themselves and have a special insight to others.
- Unaware people: These people do not analyse their life, they have little interest in doing such, and therefore find much restriction and confusion because they never bothered to learn how to live properly.
If you are aware of Carse's infinite and finite games idea then you can clear see how an awareness is needed to alter, bend and break rules. Whereas unawareness simply means you play by the same rules as every one else.
Point 1: The real rules in life, are not the rules that most play with. Most restrictions are self imposed. Some with very good reason (we call them morals - they are optional), but many are due to faulty logic and confusion, and yet still more designed by top competitors. We certainly have laws, but there is certainly no universal requirement to follow them. If going to prison is not your aim you will probably be well advised to follow them however.
Point 2: Many of these perceived rules (called in psychology heuristics and schemata), that's effectively "plans and rules of thumb", are useful for survival from an evolutionary process and can kind of be seen as the body thinking for itself. They are essentially all fear based. It is very important to take control, and make life work for you. Don't work for life, or all you'll do in your life is work.
I shall continue this series with many suggestions about how you can rise above this messy and confused approach to life to find real meaning, real progress and real understanding soon. Hope you enjoyed part one.
